Did You Know???

28 07 2008

Did you know that Jericho Kids’ Club has only increased its fees at an average of less than 1% per year for the last 13 years?!  Full time fees in the 1996/97 school year were $248 per month and are now $278 per month for the 2008/09 school year.  We’ve only brought our fees up by an average of $2.30 per year!

To think, in the 2004/05 school year, full time fees were at a high of $280 per month.  Because of increased funding in the 2005/06 year, we were able to decrease our fees by 12% so our full time fees could reach a low of $246 per month.

JKC appreciates Christine Hibbert, our Executive Director, and the Parent Advisory Committee for their dedication and hard work to keep JKC’s fees affordable.

What is Camp Byng?

10 06 2008

If you have a child in Grade 3 that is going into Grade 4, he/she can join us at Camp Byng! If your child is already registered in our summer program but has not signed up for Camp Byng…do it now! Spaces will not last so please contact us now to book a spot.

If you don’t know about our annual camping excursion, here’s a lil’ scoop…
We leave Wednesday, July30th at 9:00am sharp on a yellow school bus to the Horsehoe Bay ferry terminal. We then travel by sea to the lovely Sunshine Coast and take another school bus to our Camp Byng location in Gibsons, BC. Once the kids are settled, we have an orientation, dinner and a nature walk and camp songs before bedtime. Our Thursday is fun-filled with programmed activities such as “Eagle Eye”, Beading, Tye-Dying, Hiking and our signature evening event….the Talent Show! On Friday, August 1st, we pack up, clean up, eat up and trek along our scenic journey back to JKC by 4:00pm.

Don’t worry….our awesome staff is there every step of the way. Some staff have been going for over 5 years.

Questions?? Contact us!

Live and Learn

30 05 2008

It’s been a while since we’ve posted….our apologies!

Here’s our latest update:

Christine Hibbert (Executive Director), Tyler Summers (Program Manager) and Kate Alexander (Program Coordinator - Southlands) attended the Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia Conference this week in Vancouver/Richmond. They were updated on research and practice on assessment and children’s learning behaviour.

Our Program Leaders and Program Coordinators attended the School Age Child Care Conference in Vancouver on May 9th where their minds were sharpened with new techniques, tips and ideas for programming and interacting with the kids.

In March of 2008, Joline Bird (Kindercare Coordinator) and Skye-lea Farr (Younger Kids Program Coordinator - General Gordon) flew to sunny Ft. Lauderdale for the National School Age Child Care Conference where they did not vacation but, rather, developed their skills and passed on their new knowledge to fellow staff.

Take a moment to ask a staff about his/her Pro-D experience on how to keep JKC a safe, fun and exciting place to be!

Get in Tune.

9 05 2008

Don’t you wanna see what your kids are doing at JKC?

The Older Kids’ Program at Bayview embarked on an adventurous scavenger hunt around downtown during Spring Break 2008. These kooky kids shook hands with friendly new people, did push-ups in retail stores, posed with statues, mimicked window mannequins, performed for speakers’ corner, took an inside tour of a police car (by request of course!), danced in a hotel lobby and much, much more! Groups of four travelled together with a staff and explored how spending time with their friends and enjoying Vancouver’s simplest pleasures can be so much fun…and free!

Tell us what you want to see on the JKC Blog!

Thanks, Hawaiian Tropic!

31 03 2008

We can’t thank Hawaiian Tropic Suncare (HTS) enough!  They have been more than generous in supplying us with quality suncare products as well as bags, yo-yos, frisbees and workbooks for the kids.

Since 2005, HTS has been an avid supporter of Jericho Kids’ Club’s Awesome Summer Adventure and we hope to continue our friendship with such a giving organization.

Let’s give it up for sun safety!
